I DID A PORTRAIT BECAUSE I'M ON VACATIONNNNNN HAHAHAHAHA ----
Actually I found this lost in the deep, ugly recesses of old files stored on my emergency external hard drive. It was in the sketchy awful color study stage and there were anatomy and lighting errors galore. But then I've also developed Nale (the dude pictured there) a lot more since the days when the original sketch was done (some two years ago I think), and I've been wanting to do a proper tribute to his lovable mug.
And because of his nose.
I used some lighting and color references from what I can't remember, and the texture overlay came from either cgtextures.com or morguefile.com ... I should really keep track of this stuff.
There are still some anatomy issues going on with his back and shoulder, and his ear is a little too far back on his head, but overall, I'm happy and no longer wish to edit this like I've been doing for the past~ week or so. Because I like it the way it is.
I can't get enough of the colors on this one. The greenish yellow meeting purplish skin tone and finally red = a very lifelike and at the same time a slightly cartoonish effect. Very nice work on the hair and facial hair also. Best thing about watching you is to see how you improve all the time.
I wont point out the ear because you've noticed that on your own. And I wont critique it because I can't find any mistakes.
I immediately thought of Trust. I do hope to see an Ethan to complete it all.
It's nice to see the internal meanings in these pieces. Is it refreshing to work on a piece like this after all the school work you are obligated to do?
As for the piece itself, I enjoy the warm colours you've used. They represent Nale quite well in my opinion. Good use of textures. As you've already mentioned about the anatomy I will refrain from saying what you already know. I am rather fond of how you did his hair. Anything that curves is rather challenging, especially when it regards hair. You did good on it though. I'm impressed. I love the subtlety of his facial hair as well.
Somehow from the title and from this picture, it reminds me of that old analogy of Nale's animal being a dog. If that makes sense. Like "man's best friend" or.. "Ol' Faithful" from Where the Red Fern Grows. yes. that lovely children's book. oO;
But back to the picture, it really looks like art classes paying off and such. I love the lighting here and the (mostly) anatomical correctness. The expression is so stern and realistic for Nale. Wonderful job! keep up the great work! <3
Thanks! And you're right, one of the reasons I picked a dog (wolf-dog, really) as Nale's animal metaphor was for his faithfulness to his friends, family, and country. He's a trustworthy fellow. :3
I'm so pleased that people still remember these things. X3
Nale has the same moustache as my step-dad >w<
Although he also has thicker (and more) hair.
O_o it's the same colours as well.

Yeah, I love Nale. And your art!
